Who we are:

Zendar is creating a high-resolution radar imaging system that has resolution similar to lidar, allowing cars to see in inclement weather. We want to change the role of radar in the Advanced driving assist (ADAS) sensor stack and demonstrate that radars can take on many of the functions of lidar at a much lower cost and in all weather conditions. Zendar's technology fuses data streams from multiple sensors to build a more accurate scene and utilizes machine learning to predict likely environmental scenarios and provide situational awareness. All of this works in an embedded AI processor with tight latency and performance guarantees to deliver reliable sensing and perception.

Who you are:

In this role, you will develop so-called firmware either for radar SoCs or micro controllers in a central computer just for radar pre-processing. The radar SoCs are from TI or NXP and typically have an accelerator for radar signal processing and a Cortex core (R5x or Mx) for parameterization control and monitoring tasks. The interface is a gigabit Ethernet.nThe bigger machines have bigger signal processing accelerator and/or DSP cores and multiple Cortex cores (A5x, Mx types). The processor cores on both the radar SoC and the central SoCs are running with a RTOS.

You will be faced with tasks like

  • fast data transmission out of the radar head (approx. 800 Mbps)
  • fine time synchronization via PTP on Ethernet
  • device drivers for interfaces
  • flash download
  • programming the accelerator
  • parameterization of radar front end (modulation, timing, etc.)

We use tools like

  • Jira
  • Github
  • Google workspace
  • profilers
  • JTAG debugger
  • logic analyzer and oscilloscope

You will work closely with our SW architects and SW developers on both sites in Berkeley (CA) and Wangen (GE).

You are an experienced SW engineer, who has worked in different SW projects and is familiar with programming languages C/C++. You have worked on bare metal implementation as well as on OS based implementations.

What We Look For:

  • 3+ years experience with high-performance embedded systems
  • 3+ years of experience with C/C++
  • Experience working with bare-metal MCU firmware
  • Experience developing device drivers and kernel modules
  • Ability to define architectures and communicate them to a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to root-cause problems

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in automotive product development environments, especially related to ADAS / AV applications
  • Experience mentoring team members on software development and best practices
  • German communication skills
